Jacqueline Kellam

With hearts full of gratitude, love, and peace, we celebrate the beautiful life of Jackie—our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and faithful friend—who went home to be with Jesus at the age of 76. She is now fully healed, fully whole, and finally at rest in the presence of her Savior.

Jackie lived a life rooted in quiet strength, deep faith, and love that knew no limits. More than anything else, her heart belonged to her family. Her daughter, Carol, was her world—her pride and joy—and the bond they shared was unbreakable. She absolutely adored her grandsons, Hunter and Ryker. Her love for them was fierce, tender, and filled with joy. She lit up when she talked about them, and she never missed a chance to tell others just how proud she was. When her great-grandchildren came along, Jackie’s heart somehow grew even bigger. Keagan’s sweet prayers over her touched her deeply, and she loved hearing Alorann’s giggles and seeing that spark of mischief in her eyes. Her family was everything to her, and every moment with them was a treasure.

Jackie had a quiet gift that touched everyone she knew—she was an incredible listener. Whether you were family, a friend, or someone who just needed to talk, she had a way of making you feel truly heard and seen. She didn’t rush people. She didn’t judge. She just listened with her whole heart, and somehow, that made the hard things feel lighter. Her wisdom, patience, and steady love made her a safe place for so many.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. Her Bible was never far from reach, and her prayers wrapped around her family like a warm blanket. She believed deeply in the promises of God and lived them out with grace, humility, and quiet confidence. Her home was a refuge, her hugs full of comfort, and her presence a blessing to all who knew her.

Though we’ll miss her terribly, we’re filled with peace knowing she’s now fully whole, reunited with loved ones, and hearing the words she longed for her whole life: “Well done, good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your Lord.” – Matthew 25:23

Until we meet again, we’ll carry her memory in every laugh that reminds us of her joy, in every prayer that echoes her faith, and in every story that keeps her love alive.

Funeral services will be held to honor her life, her legacy, and the beautiful way she loved us all at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Flora Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Dana Mattox

Dana Mattox

In 1 Corinthians 10:13 it is said "No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."

Dana Matthew Mattox, father, brother, uncle, and friend, transitioned peacefully to his eternal home on Wednesday July, 16th surrounded by his family.

Dana was born on December 25th, 1963 to the late Frankie and Vivian Mattox. He was the 2nd oldest of their 6 children. In his young life Dana attended Franklin County Public schools graduating in 1982. Dana received salvation and was baptized in his youth.

To know Dana was to know him as a jokester, the life of the party, a friend to all, a fierce competitor on the field as well as the court. He was a DIEHARD fan of the Dallas Cowboys and an avid sports fan. His charisma and larger than life personality were magnets to all who knew and loved him. Dana’s smile was warm, infectious, and a constant representation of the joy he lived life with.

Dana’s story is one filled with trials and struggles, but ultimately one of grace, resilience, and ultimately redemption. Just a few years ago Dana dedicated himself to revolutionizing his life; walking away from addictions that had plagued him, a choice that would ultimately impact the lives of countless others in the Roanoke Valley. Through his work at the Roanoke Rescue Mission, Dana began to help other people overcome and recover from addiction, allowing so many to regain their freedom and joy of life. Through his work and his recovery, Dana found the same. Rebuilding relations that had been previously broken, finding joy in life, experiencing growth, health, and freedom. We remember Dana as a human, no different from ourselves; one who faced temptation in the reality of this mortal world. We celebrate him this day and every day forward for running his race, keeping the fight, and in the end being the person we all knew he could be. A man who was a champion for good, a soldier in Gods army meant to bring others with him, a man of faith in troubled times, a leader in times of uncertainty, a man who fell but at the end still got up.

Family members welcoming Dana to his eternal home are his mother and father, Vivian and Frankie Mattox. His maternal grandparents Margaret and Hercile Smith. His paternal grandparents Della and Robert Arrington. Those left to cherish Dana’s memory and continue his legacy are his daughter Dasia Mattox (Roanoke, VA). His siblings Anthony (Nikki) Holland, Cindy (James) Mackenhimer, Tammie (Vance) Legans, Fred Townes (Tabatha Kromer), Holly (Anthony) Tolliver, Dale (Sue) Townes, Eric (Amanda) Hughes all of Rocky Mt., VA. Along with many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

2 Corinthians 5:8 says “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Father.” This is a loss that will take time to accept, but we rejoice in the fact that Dana is home with family and we will all see him again someday.

Funeral services will be held at the Pigg River Community Center, 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2025. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.

Virginia Hodges

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virginia “Ginny” Drewry Hodges, a beloved and one-of-a-kind human with the greatest heart who brought great joy to everyone around her. Virginia, 89, of Rocky Mount passed away on the morning of Tuesday, April 22, 2025 after a recent battle with cancer.

Born in Rocky Mount on October 1, 1935 to Thelma and Pedro Drewry, she was known for her big heart and spunky personality. She attended Franklin County High School before taking business classes and working at Leggett’s and Rexall Drugstore, and she was a Baptist church member. She was incredibly giving and thoughtful to everyone around her, an avid advocate for helping those in need including animals (she loved feeding the neighborhood pets and had many beloved cats and “grand dogs” over the years). She was an incredible caregiver to her loved ones especially to her husband James who battled Alzheimer’s for nearly a decade before passing away in 2009. The longevity of his life is truly a testament to her love, care, and dedication she had (an always would) for him.

Virginia was a child at heart who loved the Sunday morning “funnies” (especially Garfield and Charlie Brown). She was always eager to read the Roanoke Times and tackle the crossword of the day in pen (so long as it wasn’t too easy). Holidays were her favorite, especially Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter (her wedding anniversary is Christmas day!) Her house was always decorated top to bottom with the most beautiful, charming pieces that she collected over the years; many of which were bought at auctions and antique stores that she and James frequented together as a favorite pastime. Some of her favorite things they collected included beautiful antique glassware, handmade wooden furniture, and character ceramic cookie jars (like Snoopy and Mickey). Virginia also loved old films, especially Gone with the Wind and others with actors like Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant. She also enjoyed watching crime shows like Law and Order SVU, Murder She Wrote, and Columbo.

Virginia never took life too seriously and she made each day fun even if it was doing simple things. She took pride in cleanliness and order, and she always made sure her outfits matched from her top to her socks. Her family was her joy, and she treasured her time with them. She and her granddaughters have made many silly, zany memories over the years, including scribbling funny faces on fancy royalty books together, collecting “fuzz” from the dryer, and using “idiot” as an endearing term- life was always fun with Ma Hodges. After moving to Tennessee to be closer to her family, she and her granddaughters (along with her great-grandchildren) started a tradition of “coffee and cookies” on Saturdays. She loved little butter cookies and dipping them in her coffee, and oh how she loved her great grandbabies (even those in the womb). She made life so lighthearted and fun; there will never be another like Ma Hodges.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, James Dallas “J.D.” Hodges of 70 years; brothers, P.M. Drewry and Thomas Drewry; sister, Elizabeth Shively (Hillard); sister-in-law, Louise Bowles (Carlton); brother-in-law, Earl Hodges; and granddaughter, Mylah McNeese. She is survived by her son, Dan Hodges; daughter, Lisa Hodges Masters (Jim); grandchildren, Paige McNeese (Brian), Chelsea Shepard (Matthew), Cody Hodges; great-grandchildren, Callie McNeese, Camden McNeese, and Evelyn Shepard (due in July); brother, Richard Drewry; sisters-in-law, Judy Drewry, Judy Hodges, and Maxine Drewry; special neighbors, Dumpy Betterton (Larry), Catrina and Ron Wallace; and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

We grieve the loss of a great woman with an endearing legacy. Virginia will never be forgotten and will remain in our hearts until we can be reunited with her in Heaven. We love you more than Friday-Thursday, Ma.

Respecting Virginia’s wishes, the family will be having a private graveside service. Donations may be made to the National Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America in honor of her love for animals and her wish to find a cure for Alzheimer’s.
