Doylis Childress

Doylis Elaine Clements Childress departed this life on  Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Franklin Memorial Hospital.  She was born on Saturday, June 15, 1946 in Collinsville, Virginia, to the late Lewis Green and Annie Dodson Clements.  

Elaine was a faithful member of Morningside Missionary Baptist Church were she was a member of the choir and served as  President of the Usher Board. She retired from Ronile in 2016 and enjoyed  spending time with her family and church family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis & Annie Dodson Clements and stepmother, Annie Mae Clements; two brothers, James Dodson and Lawrence “Buck” Clements; and one sister, Ann Carolyn Clements.  

She leaves to cherish her  precious  memories:  her daughter, Vanessa Childress-Hassane, and   her son, Matthew Childress; grandchildren, Antonio Terry, Elaina Childress, and Malik Childress; three great– grandchildren; five  sisters, Ruth Shirley Dudley,  Anita Kidd, Deborah (John) Jamison, Patricia (Michael) Jamison all of Rocky Mount, VA, and   Catherine “Rena” Jordan of Roanoke, VA; three brothers,  Richard (Marilyn) Clements of Rocky Mount, VA,  Glenn Clements of Martinsville, VA, and Kenneth Clements of Roanoke, VA; one sister-in-law, Ruby Clements; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A public viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home & Crematory - Rocky Mount, 195 Maple Avenue, Rocky Mount. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Pigg River Community Center. Live Streaming will be available from the Hamlar-Curtis website.
