Olvis “Vene” Hamblett, age 91, passed away on July 19, 2025. She was born July 24, 1933. Vene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was the daughter of the late Dewey Winchester Brumfield and Roberta Whorley Brumfield. Vene was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Euell Hamblett and her brothers, Herman and Dennis Brumfield. 

She is survived by her son, Dale Hamblett (Melissa); daughter, Tammy Hamblett Shorter (Rick); her grandson, Derek Shorter; granddaughter, Amy Shorter-Holland (Jamie); great-grandsons, Luke and Levi Holland; sister, Alice Scott; sisters-in-law, Marcella Peters (Ray) and Gerry Gilley, Pat Hamblett and Susan Hamblett, along with numerous nieces and nephews. 

She dedicated her life to caring for her family and was a pillar of strength to all who knew her. She had a passion for gardening, sewing and cooking. Her care and quick wit touched many over the years. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church. Funeral services honoring Vene’s life will be held on her 92nd birthday at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025 with Rev. Liz Lazenby officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
