September 10, 1932 - September 19, 2023
Ruth P. Walker, age 91 of Glade Hill, died Tuesday, September 19, 2023, and will be greatly missed by family and friends. She was born September 10, 1932, in Davie County, NC, a daughter of the late Samuel and Julia Prevette. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Jack Walker; her brothers Lloyd, Samuel Jr., Paul, Grady, Johnny and Phillip; and her sisters Helen Burnett, Ethel Dalton and Emily Poindexter. After marrying Jack in 1948, Ruth maintained their home and raised their four children. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, and a friend to many. Her love of cooking was well known by all who visited her home. She worked at the local Tip-Top Bakery five years and Dairy Queen nine years after her children were grown. In the mid-1980s she encouraged Jack to leave the retail furniture company where he worked and start their own appliance repair business through which they served Franklin County residents for more than 25 years. She joined the Gills Creek Primitive Baptist Church in June 2000 and loved her church family. She assumed the duties of caretaker for the Gills Creek Church from Jack following his death in 2011; she remained active in the church until she became bedridden due to declining health. Surviving are her four children, Gail Hubbard, Joel Walker, Penny Pagans, and Kim Hodges; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sisters Omega Peek and Linda Lazenby. The family extends a special thanks to Donna Parker for the loving care and assistance she provided when it was needed most. A graveside service will be held at Franklin Memorial Park, 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2023 with Elder Junior Conner officiating. Her family will receive friends at Flora Funeral Service from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Flowers are appreciated, or memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
