Roy Lindamood

oy Miller Lindamood passed away in Goochland, Virginia on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at the age of 90. Roy was born on December 11, 1934 in Roanoke, Virginia to the late Hazel Meadows and Joel Miller Lindamood.

Roy is survived by his son Eric Lindamood of Bothell, Washington and son and daughter-in-law Alex and Lucille Lindamood of Glen Allen, Virginia. He is also survived by his five grandchildren whom he cherished and loved deeply, Sarah and Michael of Glen Allen, Virginia, Alexander, Caroline Jane, and Andrew of Bothell, Washington; his sisters Jo Ann Dearing and Nancy Agee, brothers-in-law Floyd Agee and Ken Worley, sister-in-law Shirley Worley, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Betty Jane Lindamood, his parents, sister Betty Sutton, brothers-in-law Robin Dearing, John Sutton, Bobby Worley, and Ray Terrill, sister-in-law Peggy Terrill, and daughter-in-law Kristin Lindamood.

Roy graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1952 in Salem, Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany and deployed to Lebanon. When he returned home, he went to work at General Electric in Salem, Virginia where he met his future wife and love of his life. After GE, he started his own business distributing batteries all over southwest Virginia. In 2021, they moved to the Richmond, Virginia area to be closer to family.

Roy loved his family and his Roanoke community. With all he encountered, he always had a story to share or a listening ear. He was a dedicated husband, brother, father, and grandfather, putting the needs of others before his own. He loved connecting with his loved ones, whether in person over a cup of coffee or on the phone. Roy showered his family with great love and selflessness. But more than anything he loved spending time with his wife and they were seldom apart.

He captured many beautiful moments of his life with his camera, appreciating the beauty of nature and humanity from behind his lens. He was a lifelong and avid reader who loved learning new things in the books he read.

Roy will be greatly missed, but his generosity, perseverance, kindness, and love will live on in all who knew him. His family will miss him dearly.

He will be interred at Franklin Memorial Park in Rocky Mount, Virginia on April 25, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in his memory to either the Southwest Virginia Chapter of the American Red Cross of Virginia or the Friends of the Blue Ridge, Roanoke Valley Chapter , organizations that he ardently supported throughout his life.
