James Lee Larry, 81 years old of Roanoke, VA peacefully answered the Masters call in the early morning hours Wednesday, April 24, 2024. He was born January 28, 1943, in Franklin County, VA to the late Roy Larry, Sr. and Pearlie Mae Larry. He was preceded in death by Brothers: Rodney Buford Larry, and Phillip A. Larry, Sisters: Susie Mae Delaney and Linda C. Mays, Brother-in-Laws -Erskine Jones, Basil Mays, Walter Delaney, Sr. and James Meadows. Foster daughter Rose Mary Jackson.
James attended Franklin County Public Schools and Lee M. Waid High School. He received his PC Support Technician/A+ Certification from Middlesex County College in Edison, NJ in 1999. He worked several jobs, Continental Homes, Fred Whitaker, Norvartis, William Patterson University and Durham Transportation to name a few. He was honored for protecting a hurt student by Durham Transportation in 2018. James loved to travel and explore new places. He was a jokester and enjoyed life. James loved his family and would go over and beyond for them. He joined Pilgrim Baptist Church in 2005.
James will be greatly missed by his significant other Geraline Basham, Daughter and son-in-law: Kitty and Steve Pierce, son and daughter-in-law: James (Jimmy) and Marita Jo Larry. Grandchildren: Bryan Jackson, Brittany Gilbert, Donte Larry, Jasmine and Shane Garay, Chevonne Francois, Jalen Pierce, Kennedy Pierce, William (Chelsae) Thurman, Wyatt Thurman and Tyler Thurman. Brothers: Roy (Sue) Larry, Jr, and Jerry (Lisa) Larry, Sisters: Joyce Meadows, Shirley (Gene) Minor, Delois Pennix, and Debra Jones. Sister-in-Law: Emma Larry, 16 Great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends. Special and longtime family friends: Jean Leavelle and Willie Hampton.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 12 noon at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 1415 8th Street, NW, Roanoke, VA. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, 6-7PM at Pilgrim. Interment will be held in Franklin Memorial Park.
