Ned Vernon Hudson age 96, born November 26, 1926 was called home October 19, 2023. He was a native of Franklin County, son of the late Raymond V. and Ruby B. Hudson. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 72 years, Essyebelle; an infant son; three grandchildren, David, Amy and Travis; and infant sister, Irma Hudson. Ned is survived by his sons, Vernon and wife Judy, Mark, Bobby, Steve; and daughter, Brenda Morris; along with nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters, Margaret Hodges, Eva Mae Tyree, June Palmer, and Patricia (Trish) Tolbert; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, along with being a special friend to many. He was a tobacco, dairy and beef farmer being named oldest farmer in Franklin County in 2011. He enjoyed working alongside his wife and children milking cows by hand to a modern day dairy, plowing with horses and now as he would say "More tractors than a man should need." He was an avid bowler and enjoyed climbing the hills of Franklin County with special friends to hunt that elusive raccoon, enjoyed his time with the guys at Buckingham deer camp and recently feeding his beloved goats and genies. His pride and joy was watching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren learning how to explore the farm and help with the tractors and farm work along with caring for his land. He attended Redwood Primary and Rocky Mount High School. A member of Redwood United Methodist Church. He was happiest when sitting on a tractor working his fields and thanking God for his family, abundant crops and beautiful farmland. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Redwood United Methodist Church, 3001 Old Franklin Turnpike, Rocky Mount, VA 24151 earmarked in memory of Ned Hudson. We are not saying goodbye but instead we shall see you again in heaven Grandpa Ned. Funeral services will be conducted at Redwood United Methodist Church, 2 PM on Monday, October 23, 2003. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
