Mildred Holland Shelton, age 84 of Glade Hill went straight to the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 and was reunited with Ronnie, the love of her life and husband for 64 years until his passing in 2021. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Hazel Holland Davis and Carrie Holland Foutz; and one brother, JB Holland; and her parents, Floyd & Effie Brooks Holland. What a joyous reunion for her! Mildred was full of kindness and grace, handling the hardships of this life with gentleness and determination. The oldest of seven children in a hard-working farm family, she learned strength and a fierce work ethic from early childhood. She was employed in the same accounting office at MW Windows for 40 years and after many years of retirement she still remains friends with a group of coworkers. During that time, she would also spend whatever hours were necessary to keep the farm going with Ronnie and her son, Eddie. She also served at Glade Hill Baptist Church for over 50 years. Everyone who knew her felt the love of Jesus as she showed compassion to all and always had a kind word and a warm smile to give. She was well known for her exceptional gardening and cooking skills and has become famous for her apple cake that no one has been able to duplicate. Mildred will be greatly missed, especially by Eddie, his wife, Debbie and their daughter Jesse, her only grandchild who was the apple of her eye. She also leaves behind her three brothers, John Sherrard Holland and wife Shirley, Jim Holland and Jeff Holland and wife Cindy. She has many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department or Glade Hill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Glade Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at the church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
