April 28, 1936 - October 29, 2023
John H. Torian, Jr. passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the age of 87 where he resided at the Virginia Veterans Care Center. He was the fourth son born on April 28, 1936 to John and Kate Torian of Scottsburg, VA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings and their wives; James and Ethel Torian, Joseph and Reba Torian, and Harry and Marie Torian; and nephews; William Torian and Thomas Torian. Survivors include his children and their families; Julie Warner and husband, Michael; Jeffrey Torian and wife, Mandy; and Jennifer Raugh and husband, Steven; grandchildren; Kate Yates and husband, Daniel, Rachel and Brady Torian, Matthew and Julia Raugh, and Emma Hancock and husband, Luke; also, great-grandsons, Josiah and Micah Yates, and several nieces and nephews.
Dad proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1961. After discharge from the Army, he began his career at C&P Telephone Company where he worked as a PBX technician until his retirement. He was a quiet, gentle man, raised on a tobacco farm where he learned to appreciate the outdoors at a young age and grew to enjoy the sports of fishing and hunting. His most treasured passion; however, was that of bowling. He faithfully bowled in various local leagues into his elder years and until the progression of dementia no longer allowed him to continue. Dad gave his life to Christ at a young age, and we have comfort knowing we will be together again one day.
The family would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at the Virginia Veterans Care Center for their ongoing care of dad during his final years.
A graveside service will be held privately for the family.
Consideration of memorials made in his memory can be sent to Gideons International (P.O. Box 915, Rocky Mount, VA 24151).
Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
