Edith Laverne Young, mother, grandmother and friend born March 4, 1926 has departed this earthly home and joined her heavenly family August 15, 2024 at the age of 98.

Edith was the seventh daughter and the ninth of ten children of Andrew Patrick (Pat) Young and Della Virginia McGhee Young who lived in the Hawpatch area of Franklin County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett; grandson, M. Duane Willie; great-grandson, Adam M. Willie; granddaughter, Sandra Young. She was also preceded in death by her six sisters, Marie Young, Vida Harned Cooper, Addie Clower, Erma Lyle, Olia Dodson and Audrey Belcher and her three brothers, Marshall Ray Young, Carroll Young and Chester Ervin Young. 

Edith is survived by her three children, Jerald Young (Phyllis), Janet Willie (Gerald) and Richard Young (Fredericka); three grandchildren, Darryl Willie, Cynthia Young Todd and Kathleen Young Burgess (Michael). 

Also surviving are Edith’s seven great-grandchildren, Ashley Willie Beason (John), Emily Willie Young, Heather Todd, Lauren Todd, Seth Todd, Ben Burgess and Lily Burgess. Edith also has twelve great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2024 with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
